Corruption distancing youth from mainstream: Vakil

BARAMULLA, Jan 28: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil today appealed the Hurriyat leaders to shun rigid stance and participate in the dialogue process.
Addressing party workers during one day convention here today, Mr Vakil said Hurriyat leadership needs to participate in the dialogue process which would brighten chances of bringing permanent peace across the Valley, otherwise, if they continue to shy away from dialogue, it will give an opportunity to vested interests who are looting State exchequer. He said the continued reluctance of the Hurriyat leadership in coming forward for talks is not understandable and they should understand that talks are the only way out to resolve the issues.
“When India and Pakistan can talk , why can’t Hurriyat talk if they are really interested in the peaceful atmosphere in the State,” Mr Vakil said, adding that they should realize this fact that peace in the region was must for every body.
Describing corruption as one of the biggest challenges before the State, Mr Vakil said there is dire need to check this menace at the grass root level. Bureaucratic hurdles must be done away with so that people have direct access to the Government. He said corruption is the main factor which is responsible for the distancing public and especially youth from the mainstream. He urged the party workers to fight against corruption.
