Cost of damage to Karewas to be recovered from people

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: To stop rampant earth cutting in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Government today came out with an order mentioning that cost of damages to the hillocks, mountains and Karewas of the district will be recovered from the land owners, earth-cutting agency and machine or tipper owners.
As per the order issued by Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, it was observed that the process of earth cutting is taking place in most of the places of district without proper permission and to streamline the process, it was ordered that all the Tehsildars and Station House Officers along with District Mineral Officer and concerned field officers shall stop the process of illegal earth cutting and seize the machinery or tippers used in the process.
“Only those cases shall be considered where there is dire need of earth cutting and which are backed by a proper requisition from Government agency for development process,” the order reads.
As per the order, the cost of damages shall be recovered in the ratio of land owners- 30 percent, earth cutting agency/firm-40 percent and machine/tipper owner-30 percent.
