Council bids adieu to Malhotra

JAMMU, Mar 27: Chairman, Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra was given warm send off on completion of tenure as Chairman of the Upper House at an impressive function held in the Council Secretariat, here today.
Several Ministers, legislators, former Ministers, besides senior officers and staff of Council Secretariat were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Malhotra expressed gratitude to the MLCs and staff of the Council for rendering him cooperation during his tenure to run the House smoothly and maintaining the parliamentary system with high dignity.
He referred to his rich experience as Chairman of the Council and said he will always remember whatever he has contributed for this august House. He advised the Members to always maintain the high standards of democracy while performing their professional duties rising above the political affiliations. It is duty of every Member to safeguard the sanctity of the House while highlighting the issues of the masses in right perspective, Mr. Malhotra said.
Speaking on the occasion, Leader of the House and Minister for Education, Mr. Naeem Akthar highlighted the contribution of Mr. Malhotra in the Upper House and described him as a multi-dimensional personality who always took along the entire House while deciding the important issues. His fairness, gentleness and style of carrying out the professional obligations are an inspiration for all of us, Mr Naeem said.
Describing Mr Malhotrta as the man of principles and a symbol of discipline, the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari lauded his role as Chairman during his tenure. His contribution for strengthening the parliamentary procedure will go a long way in enlightening the new Members in future.
Several legislators spoke on the occasion and praised the role of Mr. Malhotra as Chairman. They said the cooperation and affection they received from Mr. Malhotra would be remembered for a long time. They said “Mr. Malhotra was himself an institution and we got opportunity to learn a lot from his experiences” said legislators, adding that his advices will remain sources of inspiration for them.
