Council proceedings treasure trove, needs digitization: Malhotra

SRINAGAR, May 24: Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra has underscored the need for digitization of Council library, saying that it is treasure trove of the State Legislature. He directed the Council Secretariat officers to initiate necessary measures in this regard.
This was stated by the Chairman while chairing the meeting of Library Committee Members of the Legislative Council held here today.
The Legislative Council Members, Nurboo Gialchan, Dr. B. A. Veeri, Dharamvir Singh Oberio and Murtaza Hussain Khan participated in the meeting. The Secretary Legislative Council M. A. Mir, Deputy Secretary Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and other senior officers of Council Secretariat also attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed several issues related to preservation of Council Proceedings.
Chairman stressed that all library records be posted on the website and more books on Parliamentary proceedings and other related matters of Indian democracy and State Legislature be made available in the library.
The meeting felt that all the records of Council proceedings of public interest need to be kept online and discussed the measures for installing website in Council Secretariat.
It is pertinent to mention here that in this regard the committee members has visited the Council Secretariats of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra besides Parliament Secretariat New Delhi for studying and assessment of measures taken by these States for development and digitization of proceedings and other records.
The members also presented their recommendations to the Chairman based on their observation about modernization and digitization of State Council Secretariat Proceedings in these States.
Chairman assured the members that their valuable suggestions would be incorporated while taking up the modernization of Council Library and appreciated members for providing assistance of Rs. 1 lakh each from their Constituency Development Fund for the purpose. He hoped that other members of the Council would also provide funds for the purpose, which will help the Council Secretariat for modernizing and digitization work of the library besides installing its own website.
