JAMMU, Aug 8: Congress Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) flayed the installation of prepaid and smart meters in Jammu and demanded restoration of old age and other pensions already sanctioned.
Addressing a press conference here today Dwarka Chowdhary, Chief Whip of Congress Councillors of JMC said that the new power meters being installed by the concerned authorities run fast and leave hefty bills for the consumers.
“The concerned Power Development Department (PDD) should rather correct the hanging wires and damaged-tilted poles in Jammu and ensure that the power transformers are fixed at such places where safety is ensured to stray cattle and children,” he said.
Chowdhary also said that the pension already sanctioned to the widows, old age and physically challenged persons should be restored immediately while the new pension rules should be used for the new applicants.
The Congress leader took a dig at the concerned authorities for levying Property Tax and said that it should not be levied till the General House of JMC which is a body of elected public representatives passes a resolution for that.
“The Property Tax is an extra burden on the people of Jammu who were already economically hit by COVID-19 pandemic,” he continued.
JMC Councillors Kamal Singh Jamwal, Rashpal Bhardwaj, Rajinder Singh Jamwal and Preetam Singh along with senior Congress leaders Balbir Balli and Sanjeev Panda were also present in the press conference.
