KARGIL, Feb 4: Locals have demanded District status to Sub-Division Sankoo, which is spread from Sarchay to Rangdum village in the south Barsoo to Umba village in west and is the most populous region in Kargil.
While addressing a joint press conference, some Councilor of LAHDC Kargil registered their resentment against allegedly neglecting the area and said that District status to Sankoo would ensure speedy development as well as implementation of welfare schemes there.
“Step motherly treatment with Sankoo can be gauged from the fact that the area was kept out of the public outreach programme, recently conducted by the UT authorities,” they said and further alleged that population of about 40 thousand souls was being discriminated thus causing strong resentment among the locals.
The Councilors said that they have already submitted a detailed memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, Radha Krishan Mathur seeking his person intervention for justice to Sankoo Sub-Division and people of the area.
They also appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering their demand of granting district status to Sankoo and extend the benefits of rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
The press conference was addressed by Haji Ghulam Mohammad (Councilor 6-Parkachik), Syed Abass Razvi (Councilor 5-Taisru), Ghulam Haider (20-Lankerchey), Aaga Syed Hassan Ayman (Councilor Salikot), Syed Mujataba Musavi (Councilor 17-Trespone), Syed Mehdi (Councilor 18-GM Pore), Syed Ahmad (Councilor Sankoo), Abdul Rahim (Councilor Thasgam ) and Sheikh Mohammad (Councilor Barsoo).
