Couple beaten up by goons, gold snatched

MENDHAR, May 2: A car borne-couple was beaten up and robbed off their gold and cash on Mendhar- BG Road during broad day light today.
Reports said the incident took place when one Sardar Nakki Khan, son of Mohd Hussain, his ailing wife Mehnaz Akhtar, residents of Gohlad near Mendhar and their another lady relative of Mendhar were going to Rajouri hospital in their Wagon-R (car) No. JK-12/6071. Mehnaz was operated upon a few days back and they were going to hospital for follow up check up.
Near Kottan village, they were intercepted by some youth who came in a Maruti van. They stopped their vehicle and started beating Khan. They snatched the gold ornaments of the ladies, Rs 20,000 cash and also manhandled them and then escaped in Van.
The incident took place at around 10.30 am today. The shocked couple sounded police. Some passing by vehicles also stopped there and then police took them to Mendhar hospital. The police registered a case FIR No. 54/ 2014 and started investigation.
The four accused persons identified by the victims and police are- Safdar Khan, son of Makhna Khan of Gohlad, Akhtar Rasool (private school teacher) of Mendhar, Tahir Ahmed, son of Amman Ullah and one Mahroof from Mendhar.
SDPO Mendhar Surinder Choudhary said that accused will be nabbed shortly as police teams have been sent to different directions. The accused were untraced till late this evening.
