Investigation underway: SSP Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 14: A retired Principal and his wife were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Manorama Lane, Talab Tillo, here today.

Bodies of Sanjay Kumar Chandel, who retired as Principal DIET, and his wife Veena Devi, were found dead around 5:30 PM by a relative, who immediately informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, a police team led by SP concerned, along with SDPO Domana, SHO Domana, Incharge Police Post Pouni Chak, an FSL team, and a dog squad arrived at the crime scene to investigate and took the bodies into the custody for post-mortem.
“A police team led by senior officers and a forensic team is investigating with the help of sniffer dogs,” SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, told Excelsior.
He added, “The exact cause of death is not yet known, but our teams are diligently working to determine it.”
Asked about a possible motive, SSP Singh said, “Since the investigation is in its early stages, it’s too soon to say something.”
The relatives of the deceased claimed Chandel’s body was found on the bed with a mark on his throat, and his wife’s on the floor, with some of the household items scattered around in their room.
They also claimed that they spotted the pipe of the domestic LPG connection removed from the cylinder when they noticed the body.
According to them, the couple lived alone, with their daughters residing outside Jammu and Kashmir-one in London, the other in Shimla.
Meanwhile, police have initiated inquest proceedings under the law to further investigate the matter.
