UDHAMPUR, July 13: A three-day course on “increasing menace of narcotics among youth-challenges in handling and investigation of NDPS cases” commenced here at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) today.
A statement said that 12 officers from various units and wings of the police would be participating in the programme.
“The course has been designed to analyse various factors responsible for growing drug peddling among different nations and to aware the participants about the legal aspects to handle the case related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances,” it said.
Rajinder Kumar Gupta, SSP, Deputy Director (Indoor), in his inaugural address, explained that effective policing is very essential to curb the menace of narcotics in the society.
“The NDPS Act, as its preamble says, was enacted to consolidate and amend the laws related with narcotic drugs, to make stringent provisions for the control and regulation of operation related with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and for matters concerned herewith,” he said.
He said the Act has enlarged the scope of enforcement activity by authorising various central and state law enforcement agencies for the purpose of enforcement of the provisions of the act.
He further said that a serious reduction in the supply and demand of illicit drugs can only be accomplished and determined with a cooperative effort between law enforcement agencies and the community police serve.
“It is only possible when the officers of J&K Police would be responsible enough to discharge their duties with respect to various provisions of the laws related with NDPS,” added the police officer.
Besides Rajinder Kumar Gupta, the inaugural function was also attended by Ashish Gupta, DySP SKPA, Sukhvir Singh, DySP and faculty of SKPA.
