Court acquits Inspector Crime Branch in corruption case

JAMMU, Nov 1: Special Judge Anticorruption Srinagar has acquitted Police Inspector Ghulam Hassan Kamal in a corruption case.
According to the Vigilance case, Crime Branch Jammu had registered a case FIR No. 19/2009 against CA&PD Department regarding embezzlement of huge stocks of food grains meant for Marwah/Wadwan and the complainant was arrested during investigation and later on released on bail by the competent court.
The IO of the case was demanding Rs 4.00 lakh from the complainant for exonerating him from the case and was directed him to pay Rs 50,000 as first installment on 15.10.2020 in the evening at Hotel Bishember Nagar, Srinagar, where he was putting up.
The complainant under compelling circumstances approached VOK along with bribe amount of Rs 50,000 which he was going to pay to the accused Ghulam Hassan Kamal, the then Inspector Crime Branch Jammu for taking action against the accused.
A team of officers/officials of VOK was constituted to lay a trap and accused was arrested.
After hearing both the sides, the court observed that prosecution has failed to prove the charge leveled against the accused beyond all reasonable doubt. The charge against the accused therefore fails and the accused deserve his acquittal. The accused was accordingly acquitted.
