Court awards 1 year term for giving fraud cheque

Srinagar, Dec 3: A local court has awarded one year imprisonment to a man for giving a fraud cheque to another in business trancations, and also directed to pay compensation of Rs 2 lakhs.
The accused Ghulam Hussain Mir son of Ab Ghaffar Mir of Sumabal, Safapora has given a cheque worth Rs 1.40 lakhs to complainant Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Chanapora, which to be drawn at JK Bank’s SSI branch Srinagar.
But the cheque was returned back by the Banks officials with the account having “insufficient amount.” The complainant filed a case in the court of Magistrate, which subsequently awarded one imprisonment to the accused on November 21.
“The accused is guilty of the commission of offence under Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act, and is convicted and punished with a simple imprisonment for a period of one year. The bail and personal bonds of the accused are confiscated,” the court directed.
