Court awards 10 yrs RI in rape case

JAMMU, Dec 11: Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Haq Nawaz Zargar today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to accused facing trial in rape case registered at Trikuta Nagar Police Station on January 16, 2014.
After hearing Additional Public Prosecutor Sulekha Bhat for the State whereas Advocate Anil Kumar Verma for the accused, court observed, “the prosecution has proved its case beyond any shadow of doubt against the accused Baij Nath, son of Hari Har, who is as such held guilty for commission of offence punishable under Section 376 and 506 RPC”. Accordingly, the court awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to the convict.
Under Victim Compensation Scheme, the court ordered payment of Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim within a period of one month.
