Court awards 10 yrs RI to 2 narco smugglers

JAMMU, May 1: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Kartar Singh has awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 lakh each to  Rafiq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul  Wahid Bhat of Bijbehara and Iftikhar Aziz Hanger, son of Abdul Aziz   Hanger of  Anantnag besides seven years rigorous imprisonment to Shabir Ahmed, son of Mohd Yousaf of Anantnag, who were arrested on October 5, 2011 by Jhajjar Kotli Police along with charas.
After hearing PP Shabir Choudhary for the State whereas Advocate Prince Khanna for the accused persons, Principal Sessions Judge  observed, “it has been proved that the accused were found carrying charas where contravention involves commercial quantity for selling the same in the market”, adding “the drug menace in the state is increasing day by day and completely destroying the society thereby calling for severe punishment in case of illegal transportation of drugs meant for illicit trade”.
