Court awards 3 yrs RI to Pak agent

JAMMU, Sept 12: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal today awarded three years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 to a Pakistan agent namely Ashiq Hussain, son of Mohd Suban of Udheypura, tehsil Hindwara.
According to the police case, Ashiq Hussain was arrested on November 1, 2008 at Batote and from his possession an identity card having address of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, fake passport and air ticket were recovered. During investigation, it came to fore that Ashiq Hussain had gone to Pakistan to make contacts with the enemy of the country and returned from Karachi via Nepal.
While awarding sentence to the accused, Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal observed, “the Public Prosecutor has argued that the accused/convict committed a heinous crime and is menace to the society”, adding “our country and State are suffering from militancy for the last more than 20 years and the convict/accused in order to subvert the Government went to Pakistan and made contacts with the enemy of the country”.
“The Public Prosecutor has prayed for implanting severe punishment to the accused/convict and said that in our State as well as in the country innocent people are suffering from the militancy related activities and number of lives of innocent as well as security forces have been lost during this militancy period”, the Court said and to curb the militancy activities and the request of the accused/convict for imposing lesser punishment is hereby accepted and “Keeping in view the fact that convict is a young man having bright future to understand his importance in the civil society and duties towards his country, his request for imposing lesser punishment is hereby accepted”, the Court said and awarded rigorous imprisonment for three years and fine of Rs 5000.
