Court awards 6 months imprisonment to timber smugglers

Srinagar, Dec 22: A local court today convicted six persons for timber smuggling and awarded six months imprisonment to them.
Judicial Magistrate Bandipora TA Mir while dealing with a challan filed by the police station Nandipora under FIR No. 155/2011registered against Bilal Ahmad Far Hameed Lasoo,  Ayoub Farzi, Farooq Ahmad Kawa, Imtiyaz Ahmad Kharoo and Javid Ahmad Darzi for smuggling forest timber.
The charge sheet in the case  was presented before the court on 03/12/2011. The accused persons were charged for the commission of offence punishable U/S 379 RPC, 6 F.Act .
It was on 09-07-2011 the Police Station Bandipora received a written complaint from the officials of Forest Department that they were on patrolling duty at Kandi Compartment they found accused persons have cut down three poles of wood in Compartment No 38 and were taking the same  which came to be seized from them, they accused persons were chased but fled away and one among them Bilal Ahmad Dar was apprehended on spot.
The rest of the accused persons came to be arrested during the course of investigation and which culminated into chargesheet. The  Court on the basis of evidence recorded, arguments from Prosecution and Defense finally convicted all the accused persons for the commission of offence punishable U/s 379 RPC read with 6 Forest Act.
The Court awarded all the accused 06 months simple imprisonment to all the accused for the offence 379 RPC and 03 Months imprisonment for 6 Forest Act
A fine of 1000 each was also imposed upon all and in default of which they shall undergo simple imprisonment of 15 days.
The accused persons have been taken into custody and lodged in District Jail Kupwara.
