Court awards life-imprisonment to 9 accused in broad day light murder

JAMMU, June 13: Principal Sessions Judge Poonch, Jaffer Hussain Beigh today awarded life-imprisonment to Javed Ahmed, Mehraj Din, Anwar-ul-Haq, Saraj Din, Mohd Mehboob, Makhan Din, Baz Hussain, Umer Bakesh and Abdul Majid  in the much publicized broad day light murder of one Abdul Rehman. The Court also issued General Arrest Warrants against another accused Nissar Hussain.
According to the police case, on April 25, 2010 these accused persons killed Abdul Rehman in the broad day light and in the presence of around 50 witnesses over an issue of Rs 6.40 lakh.
After hearing Anuj Kapoor, Special Public Prosecutor for the State whereas Advocate Rakesh Khajuria for the accused, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “the case does not fall within the category of rarest of rare case”. Accordingly, the court convicted the accused and awarded them rigorous imprisonment for life and also a fine of Rs 5000 for the commission of offence under Section 302 RPC.
“The accused Javed Ahmed is also sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven  years for the commission of offence under Section 4 read with Section 25(1-A) of Arms Act”, the court said, adding “similarly, the accused Saraj Din is also sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years for the commission of offence under Section 325 RPC”.
