Court awards lifer, penalty to 2 narco smugglers

Srinagar Sept 5 The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Kupwara awarded life sentence to two accused involved in a drug smuggling case, with a fine of Rs 2 lakhs on each of the accused.
The convictees Syed Ishfaq Shah son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah, and Khursheed Ahmad Gojar son of Nawab-ud-Din Gojar, both residents of Jabdi Karnah, were arrested in connection with FIR No.56/2019 at Police Station Karnah along with 15 kilograms of brown sugar, obtained from both the accused.
The court while holding the accused involved in heinous crime passed a significant verdict which underscores the unwavering commitment of the criminal justice system to combat narcotics smuggling and uphold the law. “The exemplary teamwork exhibited by the investigative agencies and the legal counsel played a crucial role in bringing these narcotics smugglers to justice”, court observed
After their arrest and investigation, it was established that the duo intended to transport the seized narcotics consignment from Karnah to Punjab. It was proved that both accused had procured the narcotics consignment from across the Line of Control (LOC) through one Bashir Ahmad, presently settled in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and is known to be a cousin of one Khursheed Ahmed.
The thorough investigation was conduction into the case under the then SHO of Police Station Karnah and the prosecution has effectively defended the case on behalf of the S Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
