SRINAGAR, Aug 17: The Principal District and Sessions Court Srinagar has convicted accused persons in an acid attack on a law student in the outskirts of Srinagar city’s Nowshera area in 2014.
The court of PDJ presided over by Jawad Ahmad today convicted the accused Irshad Ahmad Wani of Wazir Bagh Srinagar and Mohammad Umar Noor of Bemina Srinagar for commission of offences under Section 326-A of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Both had attacked a law student with acid on her face in Nowshera area of Srinagar in 2014. The court while convicting them said there is no material from the defence side to suggest any probable reason for falsely implicating them in this case.
Court said the established facts, circumstances and the chain of evidence taken cumulatively are so complete and consistent that in all human probabilities the only hypothesis is that the horrendous act of throwing acid on the victim has been committed by the accused Mohammad Umar in furtherance of the conspiracy hatched by accused Irshad Ahmad Wani. “I find that the prosecution has been able to establish the charges against the accused persons beyond any reasonable shadow of doubt. As such, this charge-sheet is accepted and the accused persons namely Irshad Ahmad Wani (Accused No.1) and Mohammed Umar Noor (Accused No.2), are held guilty for the offences punishable under Sections 326-A, 201 &120- B RPC,” court said.
Court accordingly convicted both the accused persons for the offences punishable under these sections and kept the case for arguments on the quantum of punishment on August 19.
