Court denies bail in dowry death case

JAMMU, Oct 15: 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Mohd Akram Chowdhary today rejected the bail application of one Santosh Kumar, son of Ajeet Raj of Galwaday Chak, who was allegedly involved in death of his wife.
According to the police case, on December 13, 2014 one Pooja Sharma, wife of Santosh Kumar was brought to GMC Hospital Jammu as dead. During the course of investigation, it came to the fore that deceased had committed suicide by taking some poisonous substance due to mental and physical torture at the hands of husband, who was demanding more dowry.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Summit Nayyar for the accused whereas APP Ajay Singh Manhas appearing for the State, 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu observed, “as per the evidence collected during investigation, deceased Pooja Sharma had been subjected to cruelty by her in-laws including the husband and a dowry death has taken place with a period of seven years of the marriage”.
“All other accused are stated to have been bailed out and the applicant is the only accused who is in custody and in case he is admitted to bail, he may try to tamper with the prosecution evidence”, the court observed, adding, “the applicant/accused is not entitled to bail till material witnesses are examined by the prosecution”.
With these observations, court rejected the bail application.
