Court denies bail to husband, sister-in-law of deceased

JAMMU, Oct 2: Sub-Registrar Jammu, Manjeet Rai has rejected the bail application of husband and sister-in-law of a woman, who committed suicide following intense physical and mental harassment at the hands of in-laws for want of more dowry.
According to the prosecution case, the deceased Dalbir Kour, daughter of Amreek Singh of Makhanpur Chadka, Bishnah was married to Rajinder Pal Singh, son of Kehar Singh of Badyala Chak, Akhnoor in the 2009.  The parents of deceased gave dowry at the time of marriage according to their capacity.
After some time of marriage, the deceased’s husband Rajinder Pal Singh, mother-in-law Manjeet Kour and sister-in-law Ravinder Kour started beating and torturing her physically and mentally for bringing less dowry. The demand of dowry by the accused persons increased day by day.
The deceased used to complain her parents and close relatives about the demand of dowry by the accused persons. Finding it difficult to tolerate physical and mental harassment, on September 14, 2012, the deceased consumed poisonous substance and on September 16 she died in the hospital.
After hearing PO Rohini Manhas for the State and Advocate Avdeesh Kumar for the accused persons, Sub-Registrar Jammu observed, “perusal of the police report reveals that the investigation of the case is at its infancy stage”. With these observations, the Court dismissed the bail application of accused.
