Court directive to CS, IG on drug scam

Srinagar, May 1 : The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Crime Branch to monitor the investigations being conducted in the spurious drug scam.
The division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magray today directed Chief Secretary Iqbal Khanday and IG Crime Branch, Javed Geelani to monitor the investigations being conducted into spurious drug scam by various agencies and Crime Branch respectively.
The Court has also directed the Government to furnish the details of the purchasing committee members who have purchased the spurious drugs.
The Court also directed the Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir, Dr N A Wani to furnish a fresh report about the fresh drug samples taken by the department from the market. He has been also directed to furnish the status of seized spurious drugs by the department.
The Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) representing Union of India, Advocate Showkat Ahmad Makroo has been directed to submit the status report of the investigations being conducted by the central Drug Control team in Kashmir valley.
Yesterday court had issued notices to Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education, Drug Controller, Chairman Central Purchasing Committee, Controller Drug and Food Organization, Director Health Services Kashmir and asked them to file status report of the recent drug scam and action taken against the culprits. The government today filed the status report in the court.
The court directions came in response to a PIL filed by Dr Nisarul Hassan and Shafat Rasool seeking directions from the High Court to constitute a committee of experts to look into the scam.
