Srinagar, May 14: A local court has ordered the Jammu and Kashmir Project Constructions Corporation (JKPCC) to stop illegal and unauthorized construction of Library building on the MA Road in Srinagar after residents raised objections.
The Municipal Magistrate Srinagar has ordered the JKPCC not to raise the construction till next hearing as the petitioners Mohammad Saqib Jan, Dr Tariq Jan and Krishna Koul have moved the court seeking stopping of illegal and unauthorized constructions. “The order is subject to objections of the other side”, court said.
The court directions came after the residents submitted documentary evidence before the court that the JKPCC has permission for construction of only four floors of the building and they are constructing six. Besides this, the petitioners told the court that the JKPCC is not leaving any fire gap and are opening windows towards the residential houses affecting their privacy.
They have also prayed before the court that with the authorized construction their property has been devalued.
Residents also said that the entire drainage system of the locality has been blocked due to the construction of the building. They have demanded intervention of the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and their local MLA and Minister for PWD, Altaf Bukhari.
