JAMMU, Sept 24: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu YP Bourney today granted seven days police remand of OSD to Chief Engineer PWD Nazir Ahmed and driver Raju Singh, who were yesterday arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau Jammu.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by Suresh Kumar of Reasi, who is a part of self help group of engineers in the name and style of Guru Nanak Builders.
He completed some works on Reasi-Anji road for Rs 61.42 lakh and an amount of Rs 32 lakh was pending with the Roads and Building Department. The complainant was constantly harassed by Nazir Ahmed, Officer on Special Duty to Chief Engineer Road and Buildings.
He made many trips to the office of Chief Engineer for the release of payment but concerned Personal Assistant repeatedly demanded 7% share of the pending amount as bribe to release the payment.
Acting on the complaint, Anti Corruption Bureau registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act and accordingly trap was laid and Officer on Special Duty and his associate Raju Singh, driver in R&B Department were caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 70000.
