Court rejects bail applications of in-laws in dowry death case

JAMMU, Nov 17: Additional Munsiff Samba Urvashi R Bhargav has rejected the bail applications of Sat Pal, Darshana Devi, Lovely Rani and Parshotam Lal, who were allegedly involved in dowry death case.
According to the police report, the accused/applicant had committed offence under Section 304-B/313 IPC and during investigation it came to the fore that deceased namely Jyoti Devi, wife of Kaka Ram of Redwan was subjected to cruelty and harassment in connection with the demand for dowry by her in laws i.e., husband Kala Ram, brother-in-law Sat Pal and Bodh Raj, all sons of Parkash Chand, sister-in-law Lovely Devi, wife of Sat Paul and Darshana Devi, wife of Bodh Raj all R/o Redwan.
After hearing Advocate Ganesh Sharma for the applicants whereas APP Vandana Sharma for UT, Additional Munsiff Samba observed, “it is seen that the gruesome death of the deceased Jyoti Devi was pursuant to the incidents of domestic abuse with regard to demand for dowry when she was carrying an 8 month old fetus who lost his life along with the mother”.
“The statements of the witnesses which have already been recorded prima facie disclose the involvement of the applicants, as such, release of the applicants at this stage is not merited as the applicants are accused to have committed a grave crime of dowry death, which is a social evil and that the personal liberty of the applicants has to be balanced with the public interest”, the court said.
