Court stays sentence awarded to medico, grants him bail

Srinagar, Aug 31: The Additional District Judge Srinagar has kept the sentence awarded to Indian System of Medicines (ISM) doctor by the court below for impersonation and cheating in abeyance and admitted the accused-doctor to bail with conditions.
The 4th Additional District Judge Srinagar has kept the sentence awarded to the accused-Dr Zahoor Ahmad Tantray in abeyance till final disposal of the appeal.
The accused, Tantray has preferred an appeal against his sentence awarded to him by the Judicial Magistrate 2nd Class, Srinagar.
The accused has been granted bail subject to furnishing bail and surety bond to the tune of Rs 50,000 with the conditions that he shall not leave the territorial jurisdiction of J&K UT without proper permission of the court.
The 2nd Additional Munsiff (Judicial Magistrate 1st class) Srinagar had convicted the accused-Tantray for gathering the information from the department under the different name. The court below sentenced him for two years prison with penalty in impersonation and cheating case.
In this connection a communication came to be forwarded to the concerned Police Station and after thorough investigation an FIR came to be registered and challan was produced before the Court of Law and the court had concluded that the prosecution has proved its case against the accused Tantray.
Court said the accused had cheated the officials of the department of ISM by filing RTI applications on different names by using forged documents as genuine.
