TOKYO, May 28 : The rate of antibodies found in people in Japan who have been infected with the coronavirus has exceeded 60 percent for the first time, according to two recent surveys conducted by the health ministry.
The ministry presented the results of two surveys conducted in March this year to a panel of experts on Monday. In one survey covering all age groups, the antibody possession rate was 60.7 percent, while in another survey targeting blood donors aged 16 to 69 nationwide, the rate reached 64.5 percent.
The survey, covering all age groups, analysed data on 3,947 people across 22 prefectures. For those aged between 5 and 19, the antibody rate came to over 85 percent, while those aged 70 and above showed a rate in the 30 percent range.
In the other survey, which targeted a total of 18,048 blood donors across all of Japan’s prefectures, the antibody rate exceeded 60 percent in a total of 38 prefectures, including the northernmost prefectures of Hokkaido and Tokyo. The highest rate was seen in the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa, at 77.6 percent, and the lowest in Akita Prefecture, at 50 percent. (UNI)
