COVID-19 cases cross 17,000 mark in India, deaths 543, 2546 cured so far

NEW DELHI: The Novel Coronavirus cases in the country climbed  to 17,265  on Monday morning, as per the  Union Health Ministry data.

With 24 fresh  Covid deaths reported since last evening , the toll rose to a total of 543 across the country, the government data said.

Active COVID cases in the country, at present stand at 14,175  after 880 fresh active cases were added since evening last.

There is an improvement in the number of cured and discharged cases with the figure for now resting at 2546.

Cases in the worst COVID hit-state in the country- Maharashtra have again spiked and crossed the 4000 mark today with the number now at 4203 with the number of casualties now 223, followed by the National Capital where the number crossed 2000 mark with 2003 cases and 45 deaths.

Cases have again spiked rapidly  in Gujarat taking the number to 1743 in the state with 63 deaths and while in Madhya Pradesh,  the number  is resting at 1407 with 70 casualties.

Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have also witnessed a spike in the cases, with figures now standing at 1477 and 1478 respectively.

In the past two days, the number of positive cases has rapidly increased in Gujarat, MP other than Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh the number is also above  1000 cases, standing at 1084 with 17 deaths. (AGENCIES)
