KATRA, Nov 27: A COVID positive lady who had suffered a massive heart attack was saved by doctors at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakrayal.
Seventy-year-old Lalita Devi from Udhampur had suffered a massive heart attack and was admitted to Narayana Hospital where she underwent a COVID test as per Standard Operating Procedure and tested positive for COVID-19.
The patient was initially received at Emergency Department of Narayana Super speciality Hospital and was resuscitated by ER team- Dr Sumit Sharma. Despite being aware of the fact that the lady was COVID positive, she was taken to Cath Lab for her heart surgery. Dr Nikhil Mahajan and his team followed all the COVID protocols while operating the lady and saved a precious human life.
While explaining the procedure, Dr Nikhil Mahajan said, “Heart attack is a medical emergency and if urgent surgery is not performed, the patient can loose his/her life, therefore the lady was treated as per standard heart attack treatment guidelines despite the fact that she was COVID positive”.
He further explained, “A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is blocked. The blockage is most often a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries).”
Facility Director MM Mathawan while briefing about the world class facilities at Narayana Hospital said, “The patient after undergoing complex cardiac procedure was shifted to dedicated COVID ICU where she was treated as per standard COVID management protocol and was discharged after a few days”.
He further added that Narayana Hospital with its world class infrastructure, highly qualified doctors and dedicated paramedical staff is well equipped to provide treatment for all ailments and people of Jammu now don’t need to travel to Metro cities for treatment.
