SRINAGAR, Mar 9: The contingent paid workers (CPWs) of the School Education Department today staged a protest urging the authorities to increase their meagre monthly wages which they are getting despite working from morning to evening.
Scores of such workers appeared in the Press Enclave Srinagar while they were raising slogans in favour of their demands, urging the authorities to take note of their issues which remain lingering for long now.
The protestors said that for the last 12 years, they are getting just Rs 1000 as monthly wages for working from 9 am to 4 pm, which they said is sheer injustice to them and a violation of the Minimum Wages Act.
“We are not able to make our ends meet on the meagre wages that we are getting; how is it possible for us to address the needs of our families by the meagre amount that we get,” said Parveena, one of the workers from Chattarhama.
The protestors said that they have been running from pillar to post for the fulfilment of their demands, but, they said, their demands are not addressed and that they continue to suffer due to the official apathy and that the officials treat them like they are not humans and cannot speak for their rights.
“We work from morning to evening and despite that, we are paid just 1000,” the protestors said while adding that for the last one year, they have not been paid their wages, while other dues are pending since 2018
“We have been bringing the issue to the notice of the concerned ZEOs, but nothing has happened and we continue to suffer, while our families are facing a tough time,” the protestors said.
The protestors who were protesting along with their family members urged the administration to look into the matter so that their issues are addressed without any further delay.
