JAMMU, Oct 30: Pradesh Mahila Congress president Indu Pawar has urged upon the State Administration to create conducive atmosphere for the coming Panchayat elections in the State.
Addressing a meeting of Mahila Cong office bearers and activists at Party headquarters here today in connection with Panchayat elections, Pawar ( Ex-MLA) urged upon the State Administration to create conducive atmosphere for conducting free and fair elections to the Panchayats. She said that it was responsibility of the State authorities to remove prevailing fear psychosis among people of the state in general and Kashmir Valley in particular.
While referring to the preparations for the coming Panchayat elections, Ms Pawar said the Congress was committed to strengthen democratic institutions at the grass root level and it was ready to face the elections.
“Credit for strengthening democratic institutions across the country goes to Congress party. Late Rajiv Gandhi had introduced revolutionary 73rd amendment in the Indian Constitution to empower Panchayat Raj Institutions in the State”, she recalled and added that Congress will never hesitate to participate in democratic process.
Ridiculing BJP’s attempt to stake claim that Panchayat elections are going to be held due to party’s efforts, Mahila Congress president said that BJP is known for undermining sanctity of democratic institutions in the country. She said that BJP was responsible for depriving people of Jammu and Kashmir of their legitimate democratic rights.
She regretted that BJP has eroded and undermined all prestigious democratic institutions, be it Assembly, Local Bodies or Panchayati Raj Institutions. “Let us work together to establish a new system in J&K where every democratic institution should be strengthen to enhance public participation in decision making”, he said and assured the people that Congress would make institutional arrangement to ensure that democratic institutions flourished in J&K.
Senior office bearers Vandana Makhnotra, Kamlesh, Renu, Chanchal also spoke on the occasion.
