The creation of New Administrative Units in J&K State is undoubtedly a healthy step ahead. It is the pressing need of the hour. The J&K State like other States of the country has also grown up in all facets. So it deserves expansions in various fields at various levels. The process of creating New Administrative Units like 23 Sub Divisions, 57 Tehsils, 63 CD blocks, 79 Niabats and 733 Patwar Halqas seems to be nearing completion.
However, it is to voice here straightway that until and unless the New Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies are created simultaneously in J&K State by delimitating existing ones the cherished dream of New Administrative Units would not yield desired results. It would be a half-hearted and incomplete approach to address the public grievances through these units. The people need better representation and better governance for full prosperity. The Government should not wait for the 2026’s deadline i.e where after the delimitation of Assembly Constituencies could be started, that too, if the ruling elite so desires. The present Government if really is sincere to the peoples aspirations and difficulties it should immediately review the ceased issue and pave way for the much required delimitation of the Assembly Constituencies in J&K.
Moreover, the divided and amputated areas in the garb of Assembly Constituencies into more than one districts should be brought back and kept under one district. For example, one compact block Panchari, which is an integral part of District Udhampur since time immemorial, unfortunately has been divided into three distinct Assembly segments namely Chenani, Udhampur (both district Udhampur) and most shockingly Reasi (District Reasi). It painfully means that in the name of Reasi Assembly Constituency 13 Patwar Halqas of District Udhampur are screaming under District Reasi. Resultantly, due to the unnatural and merciless bifurcation thousands and thousands of poor and hapless people of hilly and remote block Panchari have been politically enslaved and left to suffer and suffer inexplicably and endlessly for over decades in all respects. There are more instances of such divisions in J&K. The extreme injustice has to be undone side by side along with creation of new administrative unit by bringing the divided parts under one/parent districts’ambit for easy, smooth and unhampered justice to the people.
