JAMMU, Feb 10: Special Crime’ Wing of Crime Branch Jammu presented charge-sheet against the accused persons in a fraud and cheating case.
According to the Crime Branch, 604 pages charge-sheet against accused persons – Sonu Gupta, resident of Chak Aslam, Tehsil R S Pura; his brother Shashi Gupta and Gourav Gupta of Ward number 10, R S Pura was produced in case FIR number 23312019, under Section 420,120-8 IPC, Police Station R S Pura.
The case was filed on a written complaint by Tirath Singh of Karan Bagh, Gadi Garh Jammu against the accused persons for cheating and duping the innocent farmers of their harvest and hard earned money. They collected bulk of paddy and wheat from local farmers promising them of handsome profit but did not even pay the actual cost of the same, thereby swindling the money worth crores of rupees. Upon this complaint, a case FIR was registered in Police Station R S Pura. Later on, investigation of the case was transferred to Crime Branch Jammu by PHQ J&K Jammu.
During the course of investigation, it was found that the accused persons were running three firms jointly namely M/s Ashoka Traders; M/s Rakesh Rice Mill and M/s lnternational Cattle Feed alias Sona Feed. These firms were registered in the name of accused brothers and their father Niranjan Dass who was not actively involved in the business due to health reasons and died in 2018 due to prolonged illness. The third accused, namely Shashi Gupta was an employee of J&K Bank and thus no firm was registered in his name even as he was actively involved in the said business as evident from statements of witnesses and FSL report also confirmed his handwritings on receipts issued to farmers/victims in lieu of food grains received from farmers.
Besides food grains, they also accepted cash deposits with the promise of high interest to be paid per month and finally cheated the investors, thereby misappropriating with their hard-earned money.
