Crime Branch registers FIR against family for duping public

JAMMU, Mar 20: Crime Branch, Jammu has booked a couple and their son, who are accused of duping innocent people on the pretext of providing handsome return on the deposits.
An FIR has been registered against Pinky Gupta alias Saroj Gupta, her husband Shiv Pratap Gupta and their son Bhasker Gupta, all residents of Green Enclave, Near J&K Board of School Education, Rehari Colony, Jammu.
The case was registered following preliminary investigation on complaint by Neelam Malhotra, wife of K K Malhotra of Talab Tillo, Jammu and others, who alleged that the accused persons had allured them as well as number of innocent persons on the pretext of providing handsome returns on the deposits. However, after taking money from them, the accused fled away besides locking their residence and office thereby duping them of their hard earned money amounting to Rs 45 lakh besides crores of rupees taken from other innocent persons, the complainant said.
During the course of enquiry, it has been found that accused Pinky Gupta alias Saroj Gupta in connivance with her husband Shiv Pratap Gupta and son Bhasker Gupta used to make contacts with the people especially females through kitty parties and collect money on the pretext of providing huge interest and also to send their wards abroad for higher studies. In the process, she collected crores of rupees from innocent persons and issued advance cheques but after sometime she fled away along with her family and the cheques issued by her were dishonoured for lack of funds by the banks.
Accordingly, case FIR number 18/2015 under Section 420, 406, 120-B RPC was registered in Crime Branch, Jammu and further investigation has been taken up.
