Crime against women increased in 2016

MUMBAI, Dec 28: The graph of the crimes against women continued to show upward trend even in the year 2016 in the commercial capital of the country as the law and order enforcement authorities failed to control the crimes.   

The criminals even did not spare babies and minor girls. In fact, the incidents increased by ten percent as compared to last year’s figures of the Mumbai Police. Kidnapping of the minor-girls has been increased by 30 percent as against last year’s registered cases.

A total of 675 case of rape of the minors have been registered under the section 376 of Indian Penal code (IPC) till December 18, 2016 against 505 cases registered in  last year. Besides, 1105 minor girls were kidnapped as compared to 898 in the previous year. Outraging modesty has also increased, incidences of suicide by major women have also increased.    

Though overall offences registered under 18 major heads of Mumbai Crime Branch including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, riots, robbery, theft and others had dropped to 37,586 till December 18, this year as compared to 42,615 in the year 2015. However, detection ratio has been declined by two percent as against previous year.    

Other major incidents in the year are arrest of Bollywood director Assyad Khan, Government job scam, baby kidnapping racket, high profile sex rackets, priest held for rape and blackmailing, encounter of Gurgaon gangster in Mumbai, bank officials’ arrest and several other offences were the main features of the crime in Mumbai.

One Kalpesh Ramkrishna was arrested on charge of cheating hundreds’ of people under the pretext to provide Government job. He dubbed people’s in several lakh. Social Service Branch of the city police has busted a high profile sex racket running for several year from Lokhandwala area in posh Andheri area.  

Police arrested five people, including two women, who were involved  in trafficking of minor poor girls from rural area of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh  under the pretext of providing good job. Police also arrested several people for having unaccounted money, due to demonetisation of high value notes from November 8, this year.   

Gangsters’ re-entered the commercial capital of the country, extortion cases saw an  increase to 224 as compared to 163 registered in 2015. A builder of Navi Mumbai was shot at, firing took place at builders office in Thane, a builder was  looted at gun point at Khargarh area are few of the incidents of extortion in the year 2016. Underworld don Chhota Shakeel’s kin was arrested by the extortion cell of city police in an extortion case.   

A top police officer said here that most of the rape or molestation offences were committed by close relatives. In some cases, step-father committed the heinous crime at minor girl. Uttar Pradesh’s notorious criminal Sandeep Gadolia, who was wanted in 36 cases including extortion, murder, attempt to murder was shot dead in a joint operation of UP police and city police at Andheri in western suburb.            

Deputy General Manager of Punjab National Bank, Vashi branch was arrested in a fraud case of Rs 23 crore. The State Bank of India  (SBI) has demanded arrest of liqour baron Vijay Mallya in kingfisher loan default case. Member of state Legislative Assembly was arrested for slapping on duty government official at the Mantralaya.    

A prostitution racket was busted involving television serial actress and models. Other major cases which were cracked included: Kidney transplant racket in Hiranandani Hospital, where five doctors were arrested including Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the hospital. British National lodged a complaint against film editor for allegedly molesting her and stealing her 1300 sterling pounds.     

A BJP leader was suspended for molesting minor girls in a flight in route Goa-Ahmedabad. Air India senior captain was held for smuggling gold bars worth Rs 15-lakh. Internal revenue scam, call centre employees’ duping United State Citizen. CBI have booked well known oncologist Suresh Advani in Rs 25 crore seizure of cash of Vaidyanath Cooperative Bank.    

Sena corporator was arrested with Rs one crore high denomination cash. Commedian actor Kapil Sharma was booked for illegal construction.
