JAMMU, May 8: Khour police busted cross-border narcotic smuggling racket with the arrest of a woman.
This was stated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Danish Rana during a press conference here this evening at PCR Jammu. He was flanked by DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Beig and SSP PCR Jammu Ashok Sharma.
Giving details, IGP Jammu said that yesterday information was received by Khour police that narcotic and psychotropic consignment had been concealed in the house of Preeto Devi, wife of Late Sarfu Ram of Camp Khour.
He informed that a team from police station Khour headed by SHO SI Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta and PSI Rajinder Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Naresh Singh, Incharge SDPO Rural Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan and Incharge SSP Jammu Uday Bhaskar Billa along with Magistrate raided the premises of Preeto Devi and recovered narcotic and psychotropic substance.
‘Preeto Devi was arrested on the spot, whereas one more accused involved in the racked identified as Ajeet Kumar alias Kala, son of Om Parkash managed to escape from the spot”, IGP said, adding that police recovered 4.115 kilograms of narcotic substance (presumed as heroin), and Indian currency to the tune of Rs 89.45 lakh and 9 mobile phones by digging at various place in the house of the woman.
In this regard a case under FIR number 29/15 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Khour police station and investigation is going on to arrest other persons involved in this cross-border narcotic smuggling business.
He added that two sons of Preeto Devi namely Sunny and Sanjay Kumar are already arrested in narcotic smuggling case and are presently lodged in Jail at Amritsar, Punjab.
Mr Rana further informed that police team from Bagh-e-Bahu police station led by SHO Inspector Jasbir Singh under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas arrested two persons along with 1008 intoxicant capsules. The accused have been identified as Sher Bharat alias Shera, son of Swarn Lal of Kacha Talab, Bagh-e-Bahu and Padam Mehra alias Kodu, son of Thoru Ram of Nai Basti, Gandhi Nagar, he added.
“A case under FIR number 34/15 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Bagh-e-Bahu police station and investigation started”, Mr Rana stated.
IGP also informed that the police are mulling to set up full-fledged rehabilitation center for drug de-addiction in Jammu, which would cater entire province.
“The rehabilitation center would be created with outdoor activities, so that the drug addicts may not feel any kind of confinement and will get homely treatment to recover from this menace,” IGP said.
“We feel that most of the accused under NDPS Act get easily acquitted, therefore prime need is to strengthen judiciary by making amendments in the Act,” he said, adding that on the part of police the Investigative Officers (IOs) will be imparted special training to hone their investigating prowess to get better and complete details.
“Regarding Shri Amarnath Yatra, he said that Police Department have ensured proper security for the pilgrims from Lakhanpur to Banihal”, adding that senior police officers of each districts have been instructed to keep high vigil in their respective areas”, IGP said, adding that extra shelter homes will be put in place for the pilgrims.
When asked about probability of increase in infiltration rate with the melting of snow in the higher reaches, IGP said BSF and all the border posts have been directed to maintain strict vigil.
