JAMMU, Oct 24: Cross border narcotics and arms smuggling racket being operated from Dubai has been busted with the arrest of 7 persons including a Punjab resident.
This was informed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh while interacting with media persons here today.
Divulging the details, IGP said that during the intervening night of September 19 and 20 this year, a smuggling bid was foiled by joint part of Jammu Police and BSF 42 Battalion at Bullay Chak near BSF Budhwar Post at IB Arnia and recovered 61 kilograms of heroin, 1 packet of opium, 2 pistols, 3 magazines and 100 live cartridges during the search operation and accordingly a case under FIR Number 65/2020 under NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Arnia and investigation started.
“On the basis of investigation, it was found that during the intervening night of September 19 and 20, Jash Raj Singh, son of Inder Singh, a resident of Sai Kalan and Subash Chander, son of Jameet Raj, a resident of Sai Phagala at the behest of Sham Lal alias Shama, son of Isher Dass of Arnia had done to zone line on India-Pakistan IB near Budhwar BSF post to collect the narcotics and arms consignment dropped from across the border by Pakistan smugglers (identity being established) and in the meantime their suspicious movement was noticed and exchange of fire started at the spot and these two persons by taking benefit of the darkness managed to escape leaving behind the consignment, which was later recovered by joint teams of Police and BSF 42 Battalion”, IGP stated.
During the course of further investigation, the involvement of 7 persons identified as Jash Raj Singh, Subash Chander, Sham Lal alias Shama, Gurbaksh Singh, son of Bhagwan Singh of Bhour Camp Gadigarh Satwari, Bishan Dass alias Raju, son of Mohan Lal of Gharkhal Camp Akhnoor, Ajit Kumar alias Kaka, son of Om Parkash of Khour, at present Laswara and Guru Partap Singh, son of Sitara Singh of Taran Taran Amritsar Punjab surfaced, who were nabbed by special teams of Police by conducting raids at different locations in J&K and Punjab and put to sustain interrogation.
IGP said that the arrested persons confessed their involvement in the instant case and revealed their modus operandi for carrying out the cross border smuggling of narcotics.
“According to arrested persons, Jash Raj Singh and Subash Chander used to go to zero line to collect narcotics and arms consignment dropped from across the border by Pakistan smugglers (identity being established) and further deliver it to Sham Lal alias Shama, who further handover the consignment to Ajit Kumar alias Kala and Bishan Dass alias Raju, who further used to deliver it to Guru Partap Singh and used to get Rs 2 lakh per packet from Guru Partap Singh in lieu of exchange of consignment”, IGP informed.
“The racket was being operated from Dubai”, IGP said, adding that the investigation of the case is still in progress and more arrests viz recoveries are expected in near future.
The high profile case of cross border smuggling of narcotics and arms has been worked out by police teams headed by Shabir Khan, SDPO RS Pura and assisted by SHO Arnia Inspector Harjeet Singh, SHO RS Pura Inspector Jai Paul Sharma under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu Raja Adil Hamid and SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil.
