SRINAGAR: The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today caught red handed an officer of cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade officer posted at Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) Salamabad, Uri.
Official sources said that officer identified as Farooq Ahmad has allegedly demanded bribe from a trader to allow him to send goods to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from TFC, Salamabad. SVO laid a trap and caught the officer accepting Rs 50,000 bribe from the trader in the presence of independent witness.
The officer was later taken into custody, they said adding further investigation has been taken up. Cross-LoC trade between Kashmiri and POK traders was resumed in 2008 after remaining suspended since 1947 due to Partition. However, trade was suspended several times after drugs were recovered form the trucks from POK. (Agencies)
