JAMMU, Apr 1: Crossed Swords Division celebrated Golden Jubilee of its raising, here today with solemnity, traditional verve and great fervor.
The Division was raised on April 1, 1965 at Bangalore. Since its inception, the Division has participated in various operations and played a stellar role in the defence of the vital Akhnoor Sector of Jammu & Kashmir in 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan Wars. It has also rendered remarkable service to the nation during operation Megh Rahat during the recent floods in Jammu & Kashmir in September 2014.
A solemn ceremony was held at Akhnoor to commemorate this momentous occasion and to pay homage to the gallant martyrs of the Division. Wreaths were laid at the War Memorial (Warriors’ Grove) by former Army Chief, General Bikram Singh and Major General Kulpreet Singh, General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division alongwith other General Officers who had commanded the Division and Veterans. A befitting first day cover by the Postal Department and a Golden Jubilee Album was also released to mark the event and the Veer Naaris were felicitated on this solemn occasion.
The Division organized a number of events to reminisce its glorious history and traditions. What made the celebrations even more memorable was the benign presence of nine former General Officers, Veterans and Senior Officers who graced the occasion.
Major General Kulpreet Singh in his message to the troops, exhorted all ranks to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
