SRINAGAR, May 11: In separate meetings, Ravideep Singh Sahi, IG CRPF and Sonali Mishra, IG BSF, called on Governor N. N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Sahi and Mishra briefed the Governor about their respective areas of responsibility, the obtaining internal security situation and the arrangements being made for the safety and security of pilgrims who undertake Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2017.
A group of environmentally conscious volunteers led by Tassaduq Hussain Mufti and comprising representatives of Pahalgam Hotel Owners Association and the Arasta Foundation also called Governor.
Akshay Koul from the Arasta Foundation gave a presentation of the study carried out by the Foundation on solid waste generation in the Pahalgam town and along the Chandanwari-Holy Cave and Sonamarg-Baltal- Holy Cave routes. The group expressed its objective of working in concert with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board during the annual Yatra period for managing solid waste disposal.
Appreciating the efforts of the group in carrying out a study on problems of waste management, Governor urged their full co-operation and involvement in introducing new and innovative technologies for conversion of wastes into wealth. He urged them to increase awareness among people at large about the various environmental friendly technologies available for garbage conversion and also complimented the Hoteliers for their efforts in preserving the environment.
Sushobha Barve, Executive Secretary, Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) also called on Governor.
Barve briefed the Governor about the inter-community dialogue being conducted by the Centre in Jammu and Kashmir for building trust through continuing talks, dialogue and discussions.
Barve also informed the Governor about their ‘Youth Leadership Programme’ which was launched to engage youth of conflict affected areas of the State and inculcate in them leadership qualities for overcoming the challenges to peace and stability in the region.
Governor urged Barve to take various possible initiatives for counseling youth to dispel varied influences which thwart their scholastic objectives and come forward to play a positive role in building the future of the State.
