JAMMU, Apr 10: On the occasion of Valour Day, CRPF paid tributes to martyrs of the Force at Group Centre, Bantalab, here.
It is pertinent to mention here that CRPF observes Valour Day every year on April 9. On April 8 and 9 in 1965, a regular brigade of Pakistan Army attacked ‘Sardar Post’ and ‘Tak Post’ in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Only four companies of 2nd Battalion of CRPF were deployed for the security of these posts. These comparatively lesser number of troops not only battled bravely with Pakistani Army but also repulsed the attack and compelled Pakistani troops to retreat. 6 CRPF troops sacrificed their lives in this battle for the integrity of the nation.
Remembering the bravery and sacrifice of these martyrs, at the outset VSK Kaumudi, ADG J&K Zone CRPF, chief guest of the function paid tributes to martyrs at ‘Shaheed Smarak’.
On the occasion, K Vijay Kumar IG CRPF J&K Zone, AV Chauhan IG CRPF Jammu Sector, Dr VK Singh IG (Medical) Composite Hospital CRPF Bantalab, SP Singh DIG Group Centre CRPF Bantalab, other officers and personnel also paid tributes to martyrs at ‘Shaheed Smarak’.
Ram Kumar Commandant 38 Battalion CRPF and SI/GD Chaman Lal of 121 Battalion CRPF, who were awarded with Meritorious Service Medal by President of India were conferred with the same during the program.
Besides, retired CRPF personnel who are holder of gallantry medal and residing in Jammu region, serving CRPF personnel who are holder the gallantry medal and heirs of martyrs of CRPF personnel who are residing in Jammu region were also facilitated by chief guest during the program.
In such an emotional environment, VSK Kaumudi, ADG J&K Zone CRPF appreciated the bravery of the martyrs and expressed respect towards their sacrifice. He also administered oath of “Scrupulosity and Loyalty” to officers and personnel of the Force present there.
