JAMMU, Dec 13: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, who was being questioned by the officials in connection with missing of an INSAS rifle of a jawan from 166 battalion camp at Maheshpura in Bakshi Nagar, committed suicide early this morning by hanging himself with rope of his bed in the bathroom.
Gurmeet Singh, a CRPF jawan of 166 battalion and a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab had proceeded on leave the day INSAS weapon went missing and was called back from house yesterday, reliable reports said.
They added that the CRPF officials in connection with the theft quizzed the jawan. However, in the morning, Gurmeet Singh was found hanging in bathroom of the camp. He had reportedly hanged himself with a rope of the bed, leading to his death.
Police shifted body of the CRPF jawan to hospital for post-mortem. Inquest proceedings have been initiated in the case at Bakshi Nagar Police Station.
Body of the jawan has been sent to his native town in Gurdaspur.
It may be mentioned here that an INSAS rifle with five magazines and 100 rounds, belonging to CRPF jawan D K Sahai was missing from the CRPF camp. The CRPF authorities have already suspended Sahai.
