RAMBAN, Sept 3: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jawan shot himself dead with his service rifle near Banihal-Qazigund (Navyug) tunnel, in Ramban district.
Police sources said that a CRPF Jawan of 4th Battalion, identified as Bashit Narayan Yadav, son of Shiv Anoop Yadav, resident of village Chaki Brahan Puran, District Bauxar, Bihar was on duty near Banihal-Qazigund tunnel along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when he shot himself around 11.45 pm on Saturday night. They said that after hearing gunshots, other CRPF Jawans and a Police team deployed at the tunnel reached the spot and found the Jawan lying in a pool of blood.
They said body of the deceased was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Banihal for post-mortem and other legal formalities.
After conducting a post-mortem and other legal formalities, body of the deceased was handed over to the concerned CRPF Battalion.
SHO Police Station Banihal said that inquest proceeding under Section 174 IPC has been initiated for further investigations.
A CRPF officer said body of the Jawan is being shifted to his native place in Bihar.
