Sir,
In a country where killing a venomous snake is considered as a sin and where even tiny ants are fed , a medical student in Chennai threw off a dog on the ground from the terrace of his residence at second floor . The shrieks of the dog after touching the ground were saddening. Another friend of his was enjoying the gruesome scene and recording it on his phone. The harmless creature though surviving the fall fractured its hind legs .The incident recorded on social media went viral as also it was telecast on TV Channels. Animal care activists , however, arranged veterinary help to him and have demanded strict action against such person as also urged the authorities to see that a person of such a sadistic mentality was denied the continuance of his MBBS course as after becoming a doctor , his prospective patients had the risk of not getting a normal medical advice from him. We often see on roads that horses are yoked to carry heavy loads and whipped and beaten . Similar atrocities are also seen being inflicted by people on their pets or on the stray animals. Though the culprit and his associate were both arrested, yet the offence being bailable, the magistrate granted them bail.
Need of the hour is to bring necessary amendments in the law to make such offences face stringent punishment.
Yours etc….
