JAMMU, Dec 17: Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA) today celebrated 34th National Pensioners’ Day at Jammu Club. Chief Secretary, B R Sharma, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary complimented the Association for their concern and contribution towards the pensioners and their families thus creating a motivating ambience for younger generations. He assured full cooperation in the welfare activities of the Association.
He appreciated the efforts of the organizers for inviting the differently-abled students to perform on the occasion as a goodwill gesture.
President CGPWA, S S Wazir, enumerated on the activities of the Association and highlighted its contribution towards the society in general and pensioner fraternity in particular. He said the voluntary services being rendered by the Association in reputed NGOs such as Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Home for the Aged & Infirm, SOS Home and Hari Prabhu Sanstha are commendable and need to be supported vigorously.
Speaking on the occasion, the General Secretary CGPWA, J K Vaid briefed the gathering on pensioners’ portal under National e-Governance Plan and latest orders issued by the Government of India in respect of pensioners. He added that the Association has also organized free medical camps and various other events for the welfare of the society as well as for senior citizens.
Dressed in colorful costumes for group and solo cultural performances, hearing and speech challenged students of Jammu and Kashmir Samaj Kalyan Kendra Higher Secondary School enthralled the audience with an assorted platter of entertainment.
