JAMMU, Mar 8: The Executive Committee Ujala Society- Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), headed by Chief Secretary, B R Sharma today reviewed the implementation of the SSA flagship scheme and approved the proposals for the year 2017-18.
Financial Commissioner, Planning Development & Monitoring Department, B B Vyas, Principal Secretary, School Education, Shaleen Kabra, Commissioner Secretary, Finance, N K Choudhary, Secretary, PHE Saurabh Bhagat, Project Director SSA, Saugat Biswas, and other officers were present in the meeting.
While reviewing the overall implementation of SSA in the State, Chief Secretary stressed on rationalization of teachers and completing the process of GIS Mapping of all schools in the State.
For helping children with special needs, Chief Secretary urged sensitizing and training teachers towards giving care and attention to such children.
Project Director, SSA in his presentation informed that since SSA was launched in the State, as many as 10793 Primary Schools have been opened against the sanctioned 10809. Moreover, 6995 Primary Schools have been upgraded to Middle Schools. Also 97 KGBVs have been made operational out of the 99 sanctioned by the Union HRD Ministry.
He said during the previous year 220 CAL Centers with smart facilities were established besides training of teachers in e-learning is under progress. He said 40 character braille machines have been installed in all the districts of State besides 254 sets of Braille books are in the process of printing.
Biswas also highlighted the efforts being made to strengthen infrastructure, improve teacher capacities and teacher learning methods and materials.
