CS to inaugurate helpline ‘Sukoon’ in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 28: ‘Sukoon’ a helpline for the people facing mental health issues is all set to be made operational from June 29 and will be inaugurated by Chief Secretary Dr A.K. Mehta.
In this regard, V.K. Singh, DGP Home guards /Civil Defence & SDRF J&K along with Haseeb-ur-Rahman, Commandant. SDRF 1st BN. Srinagar today briefed the media regarding the forthcoming inauguration of a helpline at the SDRF 1st BN Headquarter, Bhagat Barzulla Srinagar.
They said that the helpline shall offer guidance to persons (or their well-wishers, who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, panic attacks, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorder, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, mental health emergency and pandemic induced psychological stress.
The helpline guides the caller to avail services of Clinical Psychologists, Therapists. Counsellors and Psychiatrists and provides 24/7, one-to-one support, free and confidential services to those experiencing mental health issues.
“The helpline number is 1800-180-7159. Aggrieved persons may begin calling the helpline from 5 PM on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, onwards and can join the inaugural event and obtain counselling,” the officers said.
The helpline has collaboration with Mission Youth J&K whose Chief Executive Officer is Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
