JAMMU, Dec 1: Foundation Day of CSIR–IIIM, Jammu was celebrated at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), here today.
Distinguished biologist, Prof Seyed E Hasnain of Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The students from different Colleges and Schools in the city were taken on a guided visit to the various departments of the institute. The Scientists and Technical staff have demonstrated their research activities to the visitors.
Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu while welcoming Prof. Seyed E. Hasnain, the chief guest, described him as leading biologist of India who played a major role in the development and growth of Biological Sciences.
Dr. Ram further said that Prof. Seyed E. Hasnain is one of the highly cited Indian scientists with more than 250+ research papers, and is very well recognized scientist and fellow of all major Science Academies of India (FNA, FASc, FNASc). He has almost all major Indian Science Awards to his credit: G.D. Birla Award, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, FICCI Award, J.C. Bose National Fellow Award, Ranbaxy Research Award, Goyal Award, Bhasin Award and several others.
Prof Hasnain, delivered the foundation day lecture entitled, “Mycobacterium tuberculosis: a super intelligent bacterium that is smarter than us makes TB control a difficult task”.
In his address, he talked about the intelligence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis due to which it difficult to control it.
On this occasion, the chief guest also distributed prizes for winners and runners-up cricket teams of foundation day cricket tournament.
