CSIR-IIIM & NISR sign MoU for research collaboration

JAMMU, Jan 29: As a part of CSIR’s endeavour to provide better scientific, technical, medical and societal support to Ladakh and to strengthen the research and development for drug development from medicinal plants used in Sowa Rigpa System of Medicine, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu has entered into an agreement with National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India.
The MoU is aimed for conservation and cultivation of selected medicinal plants of Trans-Himalayas, isolation and characterization of the novel compounds from the medicinal plants used in Sowa Rigpa System of Medicine, CMC of identified single plant herbal formulation of the Sowa Rigpa System and conceiving joint R&D projects based on mutual interest of both the Institutes.
Giving the detail of salient features of the MoU, Dr Reddy, Director CSIR-IIIM, Jammu said that NISR is an autonomous Institute under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India involved in preservation, promotion and development of Sowa-Rigpa in India. It is a frontier institute focused on the research and development in Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine in India and conservation of the plants of Trans-Himalayas.
The MoU between CSIR-IIIM and NISR is signed with the specific purpose to promote cooperative research and to facilitate the exchange of ideas, the development of new knowledge, and to enhance high quality research acumen. The major thrust of the understanding on which the parties will cooperate are the advancement of research in Sowa Rigpa System of Medicine and implementation of cooperative research projects for drug design and development from medicinal plants used in this system of medicine.
The agreement was signed today by Dr D Srinivasa Reddy, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Canal Road, Jammu and Dr Padma Gurmet, National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh, in presence of Er Rajneesh Anand, Chief Scientist & Head, Instrumentation Division, Er Abdul Rahim, Sr Principal Scientist & Head, PME division and Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Sr Principal Scientist & Head, Inflammation Pharmacology & ES divisions of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.
