JAMMU, May 16: Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB) has stressed the Government for providing 10% reservation in Government jobs to the handicapped people.
Addressing media persons here today at Press Club, senior BJP leader and member of CSWB, Kuldeep Sharma, said that the handicapped people of the State have been continuously striving but the State Government is not taking any genuine cognizance so far.
While drawing the attention of the media persons on the High Court order to frame Handicap Commission, he said though the Commission was framed by the Government but neither there is any office available for the Commission nor any infrastructure. He demanded that the Commission be made functional as soon as possible by providing required office and infrastructure. He also stressed for providing 10% reservation to the handicapped people in Government jobs.
Urging the Government to open rehabilitation centers and vocational training centers in every district of the State for the handicapped persons, he said that some volunteers of the association are willing to donate five kanals of land in Akhnoor for the construction of the Handicap Bhawan. He also demanded two head offices in the State at regional level.
Sharma criticized the past NC-Congress coalition Government for misguiding the High Court on pension of the handicapped people. He said that the NC-Congress Government reported Rs 500 as a pension to a handicap but the actual amount was just Rs 400.
He urged the present State Government to take some significant steps to fix the problems of handicapped people so that they can live a life of dignity.
