Modern medical science is strongly supported by technological input that facilitates diagnosis and even treatment. To what extent medical science has progressed is almost incredible. When X-Rey was introduced in the last century, it brought about a big revolution in medical science theory. Thereafter it was found that technology had a great role in medical science only if proper inventions were made.
CT scan is the gift of current researches in medical science. It shows the entire inside picture of human body to identify which part of the body has developed default and where. The Government decided to provide CT scan machines to all Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals for the benefit of the patients. Rs 1.5 crore worth CT scan machine of 200-bedded Chest Disease (CD) Hospital, an associated hospital of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, has been lying defunct for the last about two months causing much hardship to patients. The hospital administration is hardly conscious of what difficulties patients are facing in absence of the CT scan machine. We understand that it has developed some snag and has been rendered unserviceable. It is surprising that jus for the reason of a snag the costly machine has been rendered ineffective. It speaks volumes of carelessness and lack of interest on the part of the authorities concerned. Naturally, it has resulted in great pressure on the CT scan machine of the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu. Curiously, Medical Superintendent of CD Hospital says that there is no fault in the CT scan machine of the hospital. The machine is all right. It is one of the accessories of the machine called SRS Pillar which has become faulty. If this is the truth, authorities should have taken the step of replacing the part of the machine and made it functional. Some people may raise many doubts. They say that this is an intentional act in which the patients would be obliged to go to private clinics to get the CT scan done at exorbitant rates. In other words they mean to say that there is a nexus between private diagnostic clinics and the people who are in charge of CT scan machine in CD Hospital. We desist from indulging in unfounded speculations like that but we strongly impress upon the authorities that if actually the machine is dysfunctional for want of a specific part, that should be ordered immediately and the machine should be made functional.
